Costumed Henchmen Updated!

Our one-shot theater-style LARP The Difficult Life of the Costumed Henchman was first released over two years ago, but we continue to refine it and make it better. With that in mind, we're here to announce that the game has just received another update and that update has been uploaded to the website! This now brings the most recent version of the game up to v1.3. This update clarifies the GM instructions, fixes a few typos in the game text and smooths out a few confusion points when running the game. From the game blurb:...

Saga Machine Solo Games

So in this post I'm going to take a step away from talking about Against the Dark Yogi for a while and turn my attention to a completely different topic that I've mulled over a bit in my spare time....

The Prana System

In the cosmology of Against the Dark Yogi the world is filled with cosmic energy. This seeps into everything and everyone. When it is in a living being it is called prana--life energy. And this energy isn't static; it is constantly flowing in and out of all beings with every action and every breath....

Setting Sheet: Bhurloka

I'm now happy to present our second Setting Sheet: Bhurloka. Like our first Setting Sheet (Tansaar), it's a page--both front and back--detailing a particular setting in brief. We plan to release a number of setting sheets, all leading up to the release of our final product for the first generation of Saga Machine games: Nexus Endtime....

Good & Bad Karma

One of the new systems in Against the Dark Yogi is the karma system, which replaces the luck system found in other Saga Machine games. The idea of karma is a concept that is very common in Vedic spiritual thought, and one that should also be familiar to most of us here in the West....

Performance Anxiety

A while back I went through the list of skills from first-generation Saga Machine games and put some thought into what skills are more useful or less useful than the others. Out of this search the Performance skill jumped out as one that seems lacking....

The Role of Stances

The first generation of Saga Machine games have a system of stances in the core combat module rules. The stance system is basically a stance that a character can take in combat that modifies her actions and other mechanical elements in some way....

Onto the Dark Yogi

So far in the Development Blog we've talked a lot about the next generation of Saga Machine games in general and the direction we're planning to take things. What we haven't done is talk a lot about the next game we're working on Against the Dark Yogi. There's a reason for this. Although the game has been in development for some months, there hadn't yet been a playtest, and things were still in many ways up in the air....

First Quarter Tab Update 2013

2012 was a good year for The Tab Creations Collective. We progressed from 2011 which saw the release of the Saga Machine Companion, an update to our Saga Machine system, through an entire new year. It was also the 20th year of Tab's existence in some form. Not bad....

Saga Machine Development Site Live

If you've been following the Development Blog you know that we've been working on using a custom-programmed computerized system to keep track of automated references and cross-indexing in all new development for the next generation of Saga Machine games, starting with our upcoming game Against the Dark Yogi....
