Shadows Over Sol: Combat

Shadows Over Sol is a science fiction horror roleplaying game. A good horror story is all about the tension. It’s about the impending doom, the oncoming desperation, the inevitable moment of shock and terror. Then—once the moment of violence arrives—it’s swift, it’s brutal and it’s a game-changer. Frequently characters in horror stories spend more of their time trying desperately to subvert, trick or improvise against the subject of their horror than they do confronting it directly....

Shadows Over Sol: Dark Future (Part 1)

The text of Shadows Over Sol is scheduled to be out of editing soon, the Quick-Start is doing well on DriveThruRPG and the open beta test is in its final weeks. Playtest Report: Shadows Over Sol #3

Progress on Shadows Over Sol continues at a breakneck pace. Reports from the second open playtest have been coming in, revisions have been made and we’re soon going to ramp up to get ready for the final round of playtesting. Most systems have reached a stable state in playtest, but the ship-to-ship combat system is going get a bit more attention and polish in this upcoming round....

Playtest Report: Shadows Over Sol #2

Progress on Shadows Over Sol is coming right along. In the last week the first draft of the game was finished, a few more revisions to the rules were made and the open beta of the game was updated to its second phase. This draft of the game stands at around 110,909 words, and the second playtest has already been downloaded quite a few times. This version of the playtest includes our new vehicles, engineering and hacking systems. Feedback from the first playtest was invaluable for improving the game. We hope the feedback keeps coming....

Virtual Tabletops

Virtual tabletop (VTT) applications are great. I remember playing some great campaigns over OpenRPG back in the day, and run a campaign over MapTools for a bit. That said, VTTs also have their limitations, especially when it comes to trying to emulate the in-person RPG experience....

Playtest Report: Shadows Over Sol

Thoughts on Dragonlance Fifth Age SAGA

I’m currently running a Dragonlance Fifth Age SAGA campaign as my weekly game, and it’s a system I haven’t ran since high school. Running it has brought back a lot of old memories, and playing it again, there are many aspects of the design that I find I really enjoy. At the same time, there are also aspects of the design that—looked at with my 2014 design sensibilities—I think could use work....
