Saga Machine Solo Games

So in this post I'm going to take a step away from talking about Against the Dark Yogi for a while and turn my attention to a completely different topic that I've mulled over a bit in my spare time....

Art Preview #2: Against the Dark Yogi

The second iteration of the private alpha test of our upcoming Vedic mythology-inspired setting Against the Dark Yogi has started, meanwhile development continues and we expect the first iteration of the public beta to begin sometime in the next month. So here we have our second art preview for the new setting! This one shows a deva descending from the heavens in front of a bunch of surprised onlookers....

The Prana System

In the cosmology of Against the Dark Yogi the world is filled with cosmic energy. This seeps into everything and everyone. When it is in a living being it is called prana--life energy. And this energy isn't static; it is constantly flowing in and out of all beings with every action and every breath....

Setting Sheet: Bhurloka

I'm now happy to present our second Setting Sheet: Bhurloka. Like our first Setting Sheet (Tansaar), it's a page--both front and back--detailing a particular setting in brief. We plan to release a number of setting sheets, all leading up to the release of our final product for the first generation of Saga Machine games: Nexus Endtime....

Art Preview #1: Against the Dark Yogi

Work on our upcoming Vedic mythology-inspired setting Against the Dark Yogi continues, and we're looking to open up the game for public beta test next month. Meanwhile, here is the first of our art previews of the new game. This one depicts a religious ascetic gathering power as he meditates....

Good & Bad Karma

One of the new systems in Against the Dark Yogi is the karma system, which replaces the luck system found in other Saga Machine games. The idea of karma is a concept that is very common in Vedic spiritual thought, and one that should also be familiar to most of us here in the West....

Performance Anxiety

A while back I went through the list of skills from first-generation Saga Machine games and put some thought into what skills are more useful or less useful than the others. Out of this search the Performance skill jumped out as one that seems lacking....

The Role of Stances

The first generation of Saga Machine games have a system of stances in the core combat module rules. The stance system is basically a stance that a character can take in combat that modifies her actions and other mechanical elements in some way....

Onto the Dark Yogi

So far in the Development Blog we've talked a lot about the next generation of Saga Machine games in general and the direction we're planning to take things. What we haven't done is talk a lot about the next game we're working on Against the Dark Yogi. There's a reason for this. Although the game has been in development for some months, there hadn't yet been a playtest, and things were still in many ways up in the air....

First Quarter Tab Update 2013

2012 was a good year for The Tab Creations Collective. We progressed from 2011 which saw the release of the Saga Machine Companion, an update to our Saga Machine system, through an entire new year. It was also the 20th year of Tab's existence in some form. Not bad....
