Designer Diary: January

Welcome to the first Designer Diary, which will be a regular monthly feature this year.

If the creative output seems lighter than usual recently, it is because we at Tab Creations tare currently operating with an all-hands-on-deck mentality to get Shadows Over Sol 2e out the door. The majority of our recent hours have been dedicated to the logistics of fulfillment rather than the drafting of new mechanics.

Consequently, actual game development has taken a backseat to the business of production. We have been holding off on sending out backer questionnaires due to the current uncertainty regarding tariffs. This situation makes predicting our final expenses difficult, so we have opted to wait until we're closer to sending out the physical products.

However, not all work has been purely administrative. We managed to squeeze in some graphic design work to finalize the layout template that all future Shadows Over Sol 2e one-sheets will use. You can see this new standard in action in this month’s release, The Pale Exhibit. We believe it offers a sleek update to the game’s visual identity and we're eager to hear what you think of the design.

We also have ambitious plans for once this current wave of fulfillment is behind us. We have been idly sketching out a new setting tentatively titled Beyond the Ring, which is shaping up to be a low fantasy mystery box game. With any luck, we hope to move it into formal development sometime in the spring. We also have a work-in-progress vehicle system for Shadows Over Sol that is partially finished. That project has been tabled while we focus on shipping, but it is slated for inclusion in a future supplement.

We're eager to return to writing and design. Our long-term goal for the year is to launch a crowdfunding campaign for the first major Shadows Over Sol 2e supplement sometime in the fall.
