Trystell: Reborn Pre-Generated Characters

  • Posted by Thorin 02:52, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

We are happy to announce the release of a short new supplement for the Trystell: Reborn fantasy setting! Trystell: Reborn Pre-Generated Characters is a useful tool for game master looking for ready PCs. This short supplement presents a party of six pre-generated characters, ready to be used as player characters in a Trystell: Reborn campaign. These characters are residents of Melanoc, the setting's core city, and are members of the Legion (part of the city's defense). Each character both has full stats, back story and relationships with other characters.

On a different topic, looking to the future, expect the release of The Zeotis setting book soon. So far the writing is complete. We've just been doing some minor editing, as the cover art is in development. We also have two core Saga Machine freebies in the works.

Revised Trystell: Reborn Lifepath Worksheet

  • Posted by Thorin 19:26, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Recently we have revised one of our earlier Freebie Spotlights, the Trystell: Reborn Lifepath Worksheet. This sheet is designed to aid with the character creation in the Trystell: Reborn setting, using the Lifepath Module found in the Trystell: Reborn Player's Guide Beta.

The revised version of the sheet has been improved to aid in a number of aspects of character creation that didn't have dedicated places on the worksheet before. It includes spots for Creed, Idiosyncrasy, Continuance and Advancement rolls and aging. The sheet has also been brought up to date with the latest Trystell: Reborn Beta Errata. Finally, it now includes a second page with space for more Spans, and for higher-level character generation.

Freebie Spotlight: More Fantasy Templates

  • Posted by Thorin 19:01, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

It was announced a long time ago, but it is finally here, a freebie for Saga Machine: More Fantasy Templates. This short documents includes 13 new Template traits geared towards classic fantasy. Included here are Templates for playing goblins, orcs, ogres, centaurs, nymphs, clockwork men and more!

Still more Tab material is on the way in the near future. Stay tuned.

Freebie Spotlight: Combat Module Alternatives

  • Posted by Thorin 18:47, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

This week I present our newest Freebie Spotlight for Saga Machine: Combat Module Alternatives. This short document contains a variety of alternative options and systems for use with the Combat Module found in the Saga Machine core rulebook. Presented within are:

  • Single-Number Initiative: An alternate Initiative trait that simplifies Initiative into a single number.
  • Random Initiative: A method for having a randomized initiative order in Saga Machine.
  • Alternate Movement: A simplified way of handling a character Move in combat.
  • Alternative Healing Factor: A simplified way of deriving a character's Healing Factor.
  • Count-Based Combat: An alternative to the pass-round based breakup of the passage of time in combat.
  • Interact (Move Foe): A new option for the Interact maneuver in combat.
  • Multi-Action Passes: An option for tweaking passes and rounds to support a greater amount of action in a single pass.
  • Zone-Based Combat: A character movement alternative to the combat grid.

It's a pretty content-packed Freebie Spotlight, if I do say so myself. Take a look.

Meanwhile, the gears of Tab Creations keep turning behind the scene. The Zeotis setting for Saga Machine is nearly complete, and awaiting cover art. And a few more Freebie Spotlights are in the works--two for Trystell: Reborn and one for our core Saga Machine line.

So, take a look now, and all systems will be explained in the not-too-distant future when The Zeotis is released!

Trystell: Reborn Open Beta

  • Posted by Thorin 18:43, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

We are happy to announce the Trystell: Reborn Open Beta! From now until we close Beta testing in preparation for the final Trystell: Reborn hardback, anyone and everyone is welcome to check out and try running a Trystell: Reborn game. Anyone doing this will receive credit as a Beta Tester and get their name listed in the list of Beta Testers in the final hardback, when it comes out.

To do this, simply grab a copy of the Beta Trystell: Reborn books, either by ordering a print copy or downloading the free PDFs here and here. Then, run the game and provide a write-up of the game session, potential problem areas and feedback at our Contact Page. Make sure to include the names of all Beta Testers in the write-up so that we know to whom to give credit.

That's it. Enjoy.

Third Quarter 2010 Tab Update

  • Posted by Thorin 21:32, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

It's time for the third quarter Tab Update, and it has been a fairly busy quarter. Let's review what we've done:

First off, we released the last of the PDF Trystell: Reborn supplements leading up to the printed Beta books. This supplement was the Trystell: Reborn -- Bestiary]. It contained a variety of new creature and NPC stat blocks for the Trystell setting, as well as information on how to integrate Saga Machine core rulebook creatures into the world.

This paved the way for the release of both the Trystell: Reborn Player's Guide Beta and the Trystell: Reborn GM's Guide Beta. These supplements became the first printed supplements for the Saga Machine system. They have also been released in PDF.

In the last quarter we have also released another Freebie Spotlight--this time it's the Saga Machine Consequence Cards. These long-awaited cards are a useful play aid for any Saga Machine game, providing easy references of common consequences suffered by characters over the course of play.

The summer's semi-annual Tab Meeting happened a few days ago, and a number of topics were discussed. First off was a review of the Tab Creations Collective membership policies, and some internal decisions were made regarding that. During the meeting it was decided that we will be having an open beta program for testing the new Trystell: Reborn rules--expect an official announcement concerning that in the near future. We also discussed the release schedule for Tab in the near future. Of course, as before, the next big project in the pipeline is The Zeotis setting supplement for Saga Machine. Following the release of The Zeotis expect a full-sized poster map of the new Trystell: Reborn setting, and then a setting supplement for the brand new sci-fi setting, Shadows Over Sol, which we announced after the last Tab meeting.

We have a couple other projects under works, but for now those will remain under wraps. We look forward to another productive quarter.

Freebie Spotlight: Consequence Cards

  • Posted by Thorin 03:13, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

And now announcing the first Saga Machine Freebie Spotlight in quite some time: We bring to you Consequence Cards! Contained in this file are a set of cards ready to be printed and cut out. On these cards are the 28 most referenced Consequences, laid out in plain English with attached page references for the Saga Machine core rulebook. Also contained are three Action Cards, that can be used to track a character's actions over the course of a round of combat!

To use these cards, simply set them on the table in front of you when you take the indicated consequence. Simple markers (such a paper clips) may be used to indicate the severity of the consequence. All-in-all these should be a worthwhile game aid for any Saga Machine game.

Trystell: Reborn GM's Guide Beta Released

  • Posted by Thorin 22:05, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

As promised, we now bring you the Trystell: Reborn GM's Guide Beta! This 48 page booklet is the companion volume to the Trystell: Reborn Player's Guide Beta, meant for GMs. It contains all of the GM-specific tables, traits and information found in the Basics Supplement, More Traits & Equipment, Even More Traits, Lifepath Module and the Bestiary.

Now all the beta rules for the Trystell: Reborn setting are out in print, and Trystell ought to be fully playable in Saga Machine. Huzzah!

The Player's Guide Beta does, of course, require the Saga Machine core rulebook, and is designed for use with the Trystell: Reborn Player's Guide Beta by both GMs and players. It is also noteworthy that this is a Beta edition of the Trystell: Reborn rules, and the are subject to change between now and when we eventually release the final Trystell: Reborn setting hardcover.

Trystell: Reborn Player's Guide Beta Released

  • Posted by Thorin 02:28, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

It is here: the first ever print supplement to both our new Trystell: Reborn setting and our new Saga Machine system. The Trystell: Reborn Player's Guide Beta is a softcover 128 page gaming supplement containing all of the rules and information players need to know to play a campaign set in the new Trystell: Reborn setting. This supplements collected and updates all of the player information previously released in the Basics Supplement, More Traits & Equipment, Even More Traits and the Lifepath Module.

The Player's Guide Beta does require the Saga Machine core rulebook, and is designed for use with the upcoming Trystell: Reborn GM's Guide Beta by GMs. It is also noteworthy that this is a Beta edition of the Trystell: Reborn rules, and the are subject to change between now and when we eventually release the final Trystell: Reborn setting hardcover.

This is a major milestone for Tab Creations, the Trystell: Reborn setting and the Saga Machine system. Expect the Trystell: Reborn GM's Guide Beta to be released in the next day or two.

Trystell: Reborn -- Bestiary Released!

  • Posted by Thorin 19:10, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

That's right, the latest Trystell: Reborn supplement has been released! The Trystell: Reborn -- Bestiary contains a variety of creatures for player characters to encounter, evocative of Trystell. Also within this 25-page supplement you will find official stat blocks for a variety of important non-player characters found in Trystell: Reborn's core city of Melanoc, as well as stat blocks for generic NPCs of all of the Trystell: Reborn archetypes, of various levels.

This is also the last Trystell: Reborn supplement that will be released before all of the existing supplements are compiled into the Trystell: Reborn Player's Guide Beta and the Trystell: Reborn GM's Guide Beta. And both of these upcoming compilation supplements will be available in print! And soon! As I type this the Player's Guide is almost out of layout, only needing a few pieces of art for it to be finished. And the GM's Guide is part-way through the layout process. Look for both of these print supplements by the end of this quarter!

After these two compilation supplements are released, full attention will be given to the upcoming The Zeotis supplement for Saga Machine. That's it for now. Look for the new releases in the near future.

Second Quarter 2010 Tab Update

  • Posted by Thorin 22:11, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Sometimes it doesn't seem like it, but it's been a productive quarter. We've focused on some of the more technical details of the Tab Creations Collective that we often neglect, and learned some things to help us in the future.

For one, during this last quarter we experimented again with marketing. This is something we hadn't really touched since the days of Dark Ages: Trystell. We experimented by both starting a Google AdWords advertising campaign, and donating to a convention (Intercon J) auction to promote our work. Neither of these attempts at really panned out with sales, but we did learn quite a bit about the sort of support we'd likely need if we were to make a successful marketing effort.

This marketing push also came with a revision of our main website. While the navigation of the new website stayed mostly the same, we did move to a Saga Machine-inspired motif for the background, rather than the Trystell Campaign Setting Revised motif we had previously had. Additionally, the structure of the main page and the wiki's navigation were changed a bit to be more visitor-friendly.

During this last quarter we also revamped the Tab Creations store. While the original plans of migrating to a different print-on-demand partner for our paraphernalia were revised, we did reconfirm our intent to stay with our current print-on-demand partners, and added new products to the online store.

In terms of producing actual role-playing product, the last quarter saw the release of one Trystell: Reborn supplement: Trystell: Reborn -- Even More Traits. Additionally, we revealed the brand-spanking-new Trystell: Reborn logo, and released one Freebie Spotlight--the Trystell: Reborn Character Sheet.

Finally, work progresses on both the upcoming Trystell: Reborn -- Bestiary and The Zeotis supplements, and next quarter should see the release of at least one of them. Work on Shadows Over Sol has been put on hold until the summer's usual Tab meeting.

You know, that's a fair amount of progress. Hopefully the next quarter will be just as productive.

Trystell: Reborn -- Even More Traits

  • Posted by Thorin 01:01, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

That's right, hot on the heels of our last two Trystell: Reborn supplements we have released another supplement: Trystell: Reborn -- Even More Traits. This seven-page supplement finishes out the selection of new traits available for the Trystell: Reborn setting. It also comprises the last of the new material that will eventually find its way into the Trystell: Reborn Beta Player's Guide, which is expected to be released sometime in the next couple months.

Included in this supplement is a brand new system for Archmagery, as well as a full selection of Language traits for the Trystell world.

In the future, look for the upcoming The Zeotis setting booklet, as well as the next Trystell: Reborn supplement: Trystell: Reborn -- Bestiary.

New Products in Tab Store!

  • Posted by Thorin 05:20, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

We've done a little bit of a revamp of the Tab Store. Not only are the products organized a little differently--to aid in distinguishing our current and supported game lines from our legacy game lines--but there are now a few new additions to the products listed there. Ever wanted a shirt with either the Saga Machine or Trystell: Reborn logo on it? Well, you can find them now in the Tab Store! They come in both dark and light colors.

Also, since I know at least one of you will ask: Yes, we still carry our official Tab Creations thongs.
